Virtues

There are many places to practice human virtues: goodness, ethics, honesty, compassion, generosity, wisdom… The introspective of one’s life, you may wonder what virtues are being practiced in daily life. What shows all around, citizens, neighbors, friends, reveal virtues of all kinds on a daily basis.

While describing about virtues, how could we explain it to understand the significance of it. Virtues of the dictionary definition is behaviors or traits which is deemed morally good. It is simply the quality of being good. It is the ability to govern or discipline oneself by the use of reason.

It is hard to describe virtues without with a virtue in it. In the Plato’s Republic, describes four cardinal virtues: wisdom, temperance, courage, and justice. It is said to describe the nature of our soul. This goes deep in the roots of what it means to be human. It goes on from childhood all the way to old age. There is a timeless quality that it is not something that lives in a temporary fashion as material things have a tendency of doing. On a further note, virtues are repeated again and again ingrained in our character presenting who we are.

So where do we begin. We can see that virtues come from within. Using our imagination, we can paint a portrait of ourselves as a stone block completely stone, even has corners solid. With a hammer and chisel, we can carve the stone block, etching it from piece to piece.

The hammer and chisel is not just any tool to use. The virtue put in practice can penetrate through the hard thick surface. Virtue unfolds the figure beneath the surface. It concentrates toward the work and as it continues creates a spark to a hidden potential within.

There are many virtues. Therefore, select the right virtue to work on. Put the virtue in practice. Everyday, we have opportunities to put virtues in practice. When you do virtuous acts, realize it, recognize, make a mental note, and keep on to the daily noble challenges.
